Les GRAPH-SNCF (2010)

Marcel Duchamp nommait ready made les objets usuels sur lesquels il posait un regard neuf et les mutait ainsi en œuvres d’art, sans la moindre intervention de sa part. Ici les GRAPH SNCF sont des photographies (de jour puis de nuit) de tags qui ornent des extrémités de wagons rouillés, abandonnés le long des berges du Rhin. Les mains d’artistes étant déjà passées par là, il ne peut donc être question ici de ready made. Je ne suis que le spectateur ébloui de ces bouquets graphiques, offerts gratuitement au passant attentif.
Les morceaux du mur de Berlin ont fait la fortune des spéculateurs, mais ici, il y a fort à parier que ces magnifiques wagons enluminés ont toutes les (mal)chances de finir tristement à la ferraille.
Mes photographies seront-elles la seule trace d’un gâchis prévisible ? Hélas, la suite me démontra que oui…

Marcel Duchamp called everyday objects « ready made ». He cast a new eye over them and in this way changed them into works of art, without any interference on his part. Here the GRAPH-SNCF are photographs (taken in the daytime and at night) of tags which decorated the ends of rusty freight trucks abandoned on the banks of the Rhine. The hands of artists had already passed over them, so there is no question of « ready made » here. I am a simple spectator, dazzled by these graphic bouquets freely offered to the heedful passer-by. Speculators made a fortune out of pieces from the Berlin Wall, but here it is a pretty safe bet that sadly these magnificently illuminated goods trains will (un)fortunately finish their days on the scrap-heap.
Will my photographs be the only surviving trace of such a foreseeable waste ? Alas, later I was proved to be right …
