Série : CITY TWOMBLY (2011)

Juste avant de mourir, le grand artiste Américain Cy Twombly, a réalisé ses trois derniers dessins à Strasbourg, à deux pas de chez moi. Il a d’abord badigeonné de blanc d’Espagne les vitres d’un magasin en restauration, puis il y a tracé au doigt ces curieux signes cabalistiques très caractéristiques de son œuvre! Les gens dans la rue ne se rendaient même pas compte de ce cadeau et passaient devant sans même le remarquer. Pour ma part, je me suis empressé de photographier ce petit chef d’œuvre urbain, malgré les reflets de la rue sur ces vitres. Tels sont donc mes  » City Twombly »  dont je suis si fier d’avoir conservé la trace.
Des rumeurs en ville disent que ce travail ne serait pas de Cy Twombly mais d’Adolphe Schistersmutt, ouvrier en rénovation de bâtiments…Balivernes !

Just before his death that great American artist Cy Twombly produced his last three drawings in Strasbourg, just down the road from me. First of all he whitewashed the windows of a shop that was being renovated with Spanish White, then using his finger he traced those strange cabalistic signs so very characteristic of his work ! People in the street were quite unaware of this gift, and passed by without even noticing. As for me I hastened to photograph this little urban masterpiece, despite the reflections from the street in the windows. These then are my « City Twombly » whose trace I am so proud to have preserved.
In town, rumours have it that this work was not done by Cy Twombly at all, but by Adolphe Schistersmutt, a workman specialized in restoring buildings … What nonsense !
